That's Clever!  How did it happen?
Back in August of 2005 a customer who purchased one of my pendants
suggested I submit pictures of my Domino Pendants to “HGTV’s Crafters
Coast to Coast” (the show is now called “That’s Clever”).  I was flattered that
she loved my pieces and thought that they were good enough to be a
consideration!  With both fingers crossed, I took her advice and sent in a few
photos of my Domino Pendants.  After my submission I received a nice note
thanking me for my submission to the show.  They also went on to let me
know that the volume of submissions was very high and not to be discouraged
if I didn’t hear back from them.  This was the first and only time I had ever
submitted my artwork for consideration to anyone.  I figured I would never
know if I didn’t at least try, no harm in that!

A few months went by and I hadn’t heard anything but I didn’t get
discouraged.  I just kept telling myself “high volume of submissions, “high
volume of submissions.”  My family thought it was great when I had first told
them about it and encouraged me to keep trying to get my artwork out there
even if this didn’t work out for me.

At the end of November I received an e-mail from Lisa who is the segment
producer of ‘That’s Clever” along with an application for the show.  I couldn’t
believe what I was reading and nearly fell out of my chair!  My submission
was to be reviewed along with others for the Baltimore area show, and if
selected to be pitched to the network she would contact me in the future to
explain the process.  Being considered was a dream come true for me.  If a
consideration was all that was to come of this, that was good enough for me!
At least I tried and put my artwork out there.  After lots of e-mails and phone
calls, just before Christmas I was driving into a parking lot when I received a
call on my cell phone from Lisa.  She asked me, “are you ready for some good
news?”  With wide eyes I hear the words, “your segment has been approved,
congratulations!”  I couldn’t believe it, was this really happening?

A few weeks later HGTV was pulling up to my home to film the segment.
There was a crew of four who were all wonderful, kind and just great to be
around! Being nervous and excited is an understatement on how I was feeling.
Not only was I nervous and excited about my 15 minutes of fame, but I had
also caught a nasty cold right before the taping.  They reassured me it would
not show up on camera but I’m betting it will!  Oh well, what can you do?  I
have to hand it to actors because on an hour and a half of sleep, a wicked
cold, and not an ounce of acting experience in my bones, let’s just say I did
my best!  Knowing that you have A-list and B-list actors, I felt that I must fall
somewhere between E and Z!   My family was so excited for me about
everything that was going on.  They made sure the crew felt welcomed and
that they had plenty to eat!

My airdate on HGTV ‘That’s Clever” will be on October 3rd at 12 noon!  I
have some pictures below that were taken after filming!
